This is a repost of a chilling article I came across while web browsing. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is urging for the weakest and sickest of America's citizens to have the H1N1 vaccine, despite the fact that many if not most deaths have occurred in those with underlying medical conditions, and that there have been hundreds of cases in which people have contracted the Swine Flu AFTER taking the vaccine. There is something very perverse about any organization which would play roulette with the health of an entire nation, which is EXACTLY what seems to be going on here. The central bankers and other corporate thugs working alongside or under their direction are using fear and propaganda thru the media (mainstream news stations are owned by their companies) to hype up the hysteria and inject us with something very toxic. With all the corruption amongst the highest ranking elite in this country and worldwide, we would be foolish not to question and beware of any vaccine that these people are pushing for on such a wide scale. There has to be a reason, and I highly doubt its a good one. At the very least this vaccine is not beneficial and the toxins it contains will cause immune responses and damage for our bodies to repair, making us that much more susceptible to illness. And the worst case scenario is that this toxic vaccine will be DETRIMENTAL to our lives, sickening us horrifically and causing many deaths. Get educated. Sebelius: Americans should get flu vaccination

WASHINGTON – Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius appealed anew Wednesday for widespread inoculation against a surging swine flu threat, calling the vaccine "safe and secure."
Sebelius unconditionally vouched for the safety of the vaccine, saying it "has been made exactly the same way seasonal vaccine has been made, year in and year out."
Appearing on morning news shows to step up the Obama administration's campaign for vaccinations, Sebelius said that "the adverse effects are minimal. ... We know it's safe and secure. ... This is definitely is a safe vaccine for people to get."
Sebelius was asked on CNN about surveys showing many parents were wary of getting their children vaccinated for fear the vaccine has been too hastily prepared and wasn't safe. She replied that it was targeted specifically at the H1N1 virus and was "right on target with an immune response."
The HHS secretary appeared as new cases of the flu, particularly among younger people, have been appearing recently. Some 600 people have died so far from the flu in this country, and the government has targeted roughly 90,000 sites to receive the swine flu vaccine by the end of this month.
"This flu is a younger person's flu," Sebelius said on NBC's "Today" show. "Kids have no immunity to the flu ... children are great carriers of bugs and viruses."
Because of the danger of easy transmission, especially in school and day-care settings, Sebelius said, "We strongly urge parents to take precautionary steps. Flu kills every year ... and we've got a great vaccine to deal with it."
"There's going to be plenty of vaccine," the secretary said. "It's rolling off the production lines right now ... ahead of schedule, and that's good news... By the end of October we should have a substantial amount available and begin to vaccinate a wider population of folks."
Said Sebelius: "There's no question the disease is out there, which is why today we're rolling out PSAs (public service announcements) ... to make sure people take steps to help prevent the spread of the disease, and in the meantime we will push the vaccine out as quickly as we get it off the production lines."
Appearing on CBS's "The Early Show," she said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the President's Advisory Committee on Immunizations have identified five target populations: pregnant women, health care workers, children with underlying health conditions ages 6 months to 24 years, older Americans with underlying health conditions.
"That's a lot of people," Sebelius said. "That's about half the population."
"By the end of this week," she added,"we'll begin to have injectable vaccine also available. We're dealing with five production companies. That's very good news. But the vaccine will become available as the lines clear up. So as soon as we have any vaccine available, we're pushing it out to 90,000 sites around the country. The early going is a little bumpy but we'll have a good supply by October."

From suicide to desertion to refusal to deploy -- service members' dissent may be growing into something far larger.The All-Volunteer Force (AVF) exists for a reason captured in a study by Colonel Robert D. Heinl, Jr., author of the "definitive history of the Marine Corps," published in Armed Forces Journal in 1971. The U.S. military in Vietnam was at that moment at the edge of chaos. As Colonel Heinl put it, it was experiencing "widespread conditions... that have only been exceeded in this century by the French Army's Nivelle mutinies of 1917 and the collapse of the Tsarist armies [of Russia] in 1916 and 1917."In fact, statistics flowing back to Washington about the American war machine in Vietnam then pointed toward an unimaginable nightmare. Drug use was rampant; desertions stood at 70 per thousand, a modern high; small-scale mutinies or "combat refusals" were at critical, if untabulated, levels; incidents of racial conflict had soared; and strife between "lifers" and draftees was at unprecedented levels. Reported "fraggings" -- assassination attempts -- against unpopular officers or NCOs had risen from 126 in 1969 to 333 in 1971, despite declining troop strength in Vietnam. According to Colonel Heinl's figures, as many as 144 antiwar underground newspapers were being published by, or for, soldiers. And most threatening of all, active duty soldiers in relatively small numbers (as well as a swelling number of Vietnam veterans) were beginning to actively organize against the war.When, in January 1973, before the war was even over, President Richard Nixon announced that an American draft army was at an end and an all-volunteer force would be created, this was why. The U.S. military was in the wilderness without a compass, having discovered one crucial thing: you couldn't fight an endless, unpopular counterinsurgency war with the kind of conscript army a democracy had to offer. What resulted, of course, was the AVF, a moniker that, as Andrew Bacevich has written in his book The New American Militarism, was but "a euphemism for what is, in fact, a professional army... [that] does not even remotely 'look like' democratic America." Citizenship and the obligation to serve were now officially severed and, from the 1980s on, most Americans would ever more vigorously cheer on the AVF from the sidelines, while it would be a force theoretically purged of possible Vietnam-style dissent and refusal.In that sense, it could be considered a success. We've now been at war seven and a half years in Afghanistan and more than five in Iraq, two catastrophic counterinsurgency struggles, and yet a Vietnam-style movement has neither arisen in the military, nor for that matter in the streets of what's now called "the homeland." But as Dahr Jamail indicates below and in his new book, The Will To Resist: Soldiers Who Refuse to Fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, dissent has proved irrepressible. They have lived in the shadow of Rio Puerco, a Uranium waste spill that exceeds 3 Mile Island in the amount of nuclear material leached into the ground, with hundreds of people effected and which has yet to be cleaned up.

They have been poisoned by the United States at Fort Windgate, where Navajo People were exposed to the Hantavirus for the crime of living downwind from the Fort Windgate Munitions Depot. Though rarely mentioned, all cases of Hantavirus in the United States have occurred downwind of U.S. Military Munitions Storage Depots, in Hanford, in Long Island, New York and in Southern California.

My name is Dr. Milo Muller, I am living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and my profession is a veterinarian epidemiologist. My specialty is a veterinary public health, and part of my training is to investigate outbreaks of diseases transmissible from animals to humans.

Recently, in dealing with two issues of disparate treatment of American Indians in New Mexico,
I found an issue that desperately needs the attention of the American public. In this instance, the Federal Government created this issue, failed to take corrective action when violations of federal laws became known to the upper management in Washington, DC, and then stonewalled a proper investigation of this malfeasance, comparable only to infamous government Tuskegee Experiment on African-American men in 1940's.

My first concern is that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is unlawfully blocking a proper investigation of reckless exposure of American Indians residing on Navaho Reservation in New Mexico to Scrapie Prion (infection agent similar to Mad Cow Disease). My numerous letters and submissions to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and to the USDA Inspector General regarding this malfeasance have been ignored, in direct violations of federal government policies and regulations.

Attached to this email in .PDF file are a few examples of my letters to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC), a small federal agency responsible for investigation of allegations of prohibited personal practices committed by federal employees.

Regretfully, the OSC management, including the head of the Agency Mr. William Reukauf, do not see any wrongdoing when employees of other federal agencies (USDA) committed fiscal fraud for personal benefits for over $100K, or recklessly causing mutton from Scrapie infected sheep to enter human food chain of American Indians in New Mexico, or destruction of federal documents describing this malfeasance (EEOC, Denver and San Francisco District Office).

Disturbing is also fact that my two submissions to Henry Waxman, Chairman, and Tom Davis, Ranking Member, Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives, remains unanswered (attached are copies of both submissions). It should come as no surprise that my third letter on this subject dated February 14, 2009, addressed to Edolphus Towns, who replaced Henry Waxman, also remains unanswered.

The second issue is illegal destruction of part of USDA, EEO official complaint file pertinent to discrimination complaint registered by Mr. Carlos Jojola, one-race American Indian from Isleta Pueblo, New Mexico. Destruction of official complaint file documents was committed by the USDA Civil Rights Office employees in close cooperation with the EEOC Phoenix District Office management for sole purpose to falsely claim that in this particular EEO case "no discrimination occurred".

The case was four and half years inactive (in accordance with federal policy it should be resolved in time limit of 180 calendar days), and then suddenly the Agency (USDA) issued its racist, bizarre decision claiming that "no discrimination occurred", in contrary to factual evidence of the record.

Mr. Carlos Jojola was my coworker employed by the USDA in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am still serving as his EEO Representative in this discrimination case that is currently at the administrative EEOC level. The cause of action in this EEO complaint is racial discrimination, failure to provide reasonable accommodation for Mr. Jojola's disabilities, and harassment by employees of the USDA Personal Operation Branch in Minneapolis, MN.

For your information, attached in .PDF file is an Appeal Form that I submitted to the EEOC in February 2009. Neither USDA nor EEOC contacted me in a good faith for early resolution of this case. Both issues are extreme examples how federal government treats American Indians despite its rhetoric about Equal Employment Opportunity and other baseless claims. I have available 100's of pages of supporting documents fully confirming my allegations.

In my opinion, after quite frustrating experience with multiple governmental entities, I believe that only solution to this situation would be to contact newspapers and to let American public know this malfeasance.
Please contact any trusted journalist who is willing to report on this issue.

About the Attached:

In attachments please find four examples of Scrapie positive test results from the Colorado State
Diagnostic Laboratory that is part of School of Veterinary Medicine. Hard copies are available upon request.

Also attached is an article describing the Innunohistochemistry test (IHC) that was used at the above mentioned laboratory for regular screening of those samples. As you can see, this test is practically 100 percent accurate. Basically, it is based on molecular markers, and if in particular sample is present infectious agent Prion, part of affected sample will turn purple. Basically, 4th grader can make diagnosis of positive or negative samples based on color change. It is very specific, as you can see from an article.

Do not be confused by statement on test results form that "these results have not been confirmed by National Veterinary Service Laboratory".

These are standard operating procedures for USDA for any tests performed by a contract laboratories in the USA. In this particular case, this served as a political tool to "decide" what test will be classified as positive or negative, depending on their political agenda, in this case for covering fraud.

Since USDA knew that the collection of samples was fraudulent, and that the collector, USDA technician Mr. Braman, collected samples on monthly basis instead on daily basis as he was paid for, about ten days later, on April 27, 2006, USDA stated that all previously positive samples were "negative". I will send you hard copies of that "decision" in mail. This was of course whitewash for purpose to cover up for illegal activities of multiple USDA officials.

Also, I am sending you one page of scanned slaughter dates for Hunts Meats in Waterflow, New Mexico. This is a plant that slaughtered those infected animals. Please see that the plant was not operating on January 20, 2006, but USDA technician claimed that on that day he collected samples (Test number 420, attached scanned copy) that had one positive sheep. I have multiple documents proving that this was ongoing issue of fraudulently submitted Scrapie samples. Basically, this plant was not inspected as required by USDA regulations, and it is massive multi-level fraud. The owner of the plant contacted USDA in Washington in writing, but they refused to investigate.

This issue should be presented to the press without any unclear areas, so USDA would not have any legitimate defense.

I also contacted Government Accountability Project in Washington DC, who partially worked on this issue three years ago, together with me and with the plant owners. I will hear from them soon if they would be willing to reopen this case. In the past, they contacted USDA with request for those samples (for purpose to send them to England for confirmation of Scrapie), but USDA refused to communicate with them.

CIA Crucified captive in Abu Ghraib Prison

The Central Intelligence Agency crucified a prisoner in Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad, according to a report published in The New Yorker magazine.

“A forensic examiner found that he (the prisoner) had essentially been crucified; he died from asphyxiation after having been hung by his arms, in a hood, and suffering broken ribs,” the magazine’s Jane Mayer writes in the magazine’s June 22nd issue. “Military pathologists classified the case a homicide.” The date of the murder was not given.

“No criminal charges have ever been brought against any C.I.A. officer involved in the torture program, despite the fact that at least three prisoners interrogated by agency personnel died as a result of mistreatment,” Mayer notes.

An earlier report, by John Hendren in The Los Angeles Times indicted other torture killings. And Human Rights First says nearly 100 detainees have died in U.S. custody in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hendren reported that one Manadel Jamadi died “of blunt-force injuries” complicated by “compromised respiration” at Abu Ghraib prison “while he was with Navy SEALs and other special operations troops.” Another victim, Abdul Jaleel, died while gagged and shackled to a cell door with his hands over his head.” Yet another prisoner, Maj. Gen. Abid Mowhosh, former commander of Iraq’s air defenses, “died of asphyxiation due to smothering and chest compression” in Qaim, Iraq.

"There is no question that U.S. interrogations have resulted in deaths," says Anthony Romero, executive director of the ACLU. "High-ranking officials who knew about the torture and sat on their hands and those who created and endorsed these policies must be held accountable. America must stop putting its head in the sand and deal with the torture scandal." At least scores of detainees in U.S. custody have died and homicide is suspected. As far back as May, 2004, the Pentagon conceded at least 37 deaths of prisoners in its custody in Iraq and Afghanistan had prompted investigations.

Nathaniel Raymond, of Physicians for Human Rights, told The New Yorker, “We still don’t know how many detainees were in the black sites, or who they were. We don’t fully know the White House’s role, or the C.I.A.’s role. We need a full accounting, especially as it relates to health professionals.”

Recently released Justice memos, he noted, contain numerous references to CIA medical personnel participating in coercive interrogation sessions. “They were the designers, the legitimizers, and the implementers,” Raymond said. “This is arguably the single greatest medical-ethics scandal in American history. We need answers.”

The ACLU obtained its information from the Pentagon through a Freedom of Information suit. Documents received included 44 autopsies and death reports as well as a summary of autopsy reports of people seized in Iraq and Afghanistan. An ACLU statement noted, “This covers just a fraction of the total number of Iraqis and Afghanis who have died while in U.S. custody.” (Italics added).

Torture by the CIA has been facilitated by the Agency’s ability to hide prisoners in “black sites” kept secret from the Red Cross, to hold prisoners off the books, and to detain them for years without bringing charges or providing them with lawyers.

Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch, denounced the Obama administration for considering “prevention detention,” The New Yorker’s Mayer wrote. Roth said this tactic “mimics the Bush Administration’s abusive approach.”

From all indications, CIA Director Panetta has no intention of bringing to justice CIA officials involved in the systematic torture of prisoners. Panetta told Mayer, “I’m going to give people the benefit of the doubt…If they do the job that they’re paid to do, I can’t ask for a hell of a lot more.”

Such sentiments differ markedly from those Panetta wrote in an article published last year in the January Washington Monthly: “We either believe in the dignity of the individual, the rule of law, and the prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment, or we don’t. There is no middle ground.”

One way to discern who really runs a country is to look to see which individuals, if any, are above the law. In the Obama administration, like its predecessors, they include the employees of the CIA. Crucifixions they execute in the Middle East differ from those reported in the New Testament in at least one important respect: Jesus Christ had a trial.

After Obama apologized for the strike which the Afghan government claimed killed well over a hundred ordinary country folk, came the report that the families of those killed, and subsequent Afghani dead falling in harms way of the US military, continuing as before, can apply to receive up to $2,000 compensation. This is the price the great United States of American puts on an Afghan or Pakistan human being, while awarding $100,000 to families of Americans who die while fighting and killing wherever.Shocking? Shame provoking? Embarrassing that no Afghani or Pakistani child or parent has any human right at all, including the right not to be blown to pieces in a US drone air strike? - the final insult being the value of their lives put at a mere $2,000 by the wealthiest nation in history?Naw, not within the general public, which more or less accepts this assessment of a well-liked Commander-in-Chief President Obama, and accepts the calculations by his generals and higher officers.In imperialist America, there is not even any interest in such 'war casualties,' considered 'inevitable' by the U.S. government, now led by the Obama administration, as it continues to react worldwide to the Saudi Arabians (and one Algerian and one Yemenite) who suicided themselves into the walls of the Pentagon and World Trade Center in 2001.Why bother to continue amplifying the point of this article? The following is a copy of an email and open letter written to The President of the United States. The author is State Representative Samuel E. Rohrer - PA 128th District (R-Berks) and House Republican Finance Committee Chairman.

Dear Friends,

In just another day, we will all observe Independence Day. Yet, like you, we all realize that our freedoms have never been so threatened both from within and without. We wonder what actions we should take. We wonder what happens if we wait too long? I know we all wish for some clarion call from some leader with a response commensurate to the challenges we are seeing. A recent news analysis from Rachel Maddow (MSNBC News) of a major policy speech made by our President in May prompted me to write this open letter to the President as my next step. I hope my letter will further develop your thinking as we celebrate Independence Day. While I stop short of suggesting a specific collective action that American citizens can take, I believe that history lays out the pattern.Dear Mr. President,I write to you as one elected official to another on behalf of average American citizens. We listen to your words and measure them carefully. With hope, we watch your actions. We then look to history and compare the events of our day with the events of yesterday. We look to our Founders and read carefully their intellectual discourses and their moral debate. They ultimately concluded that the actions of the king were best described as tyranny, because they could not be honestly described any other way. Having come to such a serious and reasoned conclusion, their path was charted—unknown as to its outcome—but certain as to its demand upon them. Mr. President, we are doing what Americans have done before.Many of your words, at face value, inspire and offer some level of hope. This is why many Americans cast their vote for you. Yet, now that you are in office, your actions are inspiring fear and distrust. At nearly every level, Americans, regardless of political party, are being forced to walk down the same road our Founders were forced to walk – questioning, analyzing, and looking deep within their souls. The similarities between the past and the present are amazing. If you desire to test the American people’s resolve and challenge their patience, you are accomplishing your goal. You know what is happening within the hearts and minds of the average American. That is why state legislatures are offering and passing resolutions, re-affirming the 10th Amendment and state sovereignty issue. That is why the Tea Party movement is growing by the day and is attended by rich and poor alike. That is why you and Congress are hearing from the American public in record numbers on an increasing range of major issues including the bail-out, the stimulus plan, “cap and tax”, and government intrusion into health care.Your speech sounds sensitive to the economic and emotional needs so heavy on our people. Yet, your continued references to being guided by the “Rule of Law” (our Founders knew this meant God’s Higher Law and the Highest Law of the Land – the Constitution) are hollow and disingenuous. Your recent speech in front of the original Constitution of the United States of America in the National Archives makes it all so clear that your words mean nothing. Your agenda and you yourself appear to be that “rule of law” – effectively setting aside all Constitutional constraints. It’s unfortunate that I must be so direct, but you are leaving the American people with very few options.Mr. President, it is clear by your speech and actions that your oath to the Constitution is not binding to you and, therefore, is a broken oath. On many fronts, so much of significance has happened in such a short time. You (and the Congress) are overriding state sovereignty and encouraging the states into unsustainable programs through Stimulus Funds: this will force them to beg you and the elite in Washington for help when the funding runs out. Your policies are destroying the wealth of hard-working Americans by plunging this nation into inescapable debt to our enemies and by justifying the disastrous printing of trillions in fiat money. What you and the Federal Reserve do not destroy immediately by exploding our debt, will be completely devoured by the ensuing hyper-inflation. What an insidious way for you and Congress to spend what you do not have by robbing it from every hard-working American who has responsibly worked and saved!You have violated historic contract law by choosing who wins and who loses, while Chrysler and General Motors is eviscerated and turned into ‘Government Motors’. You have thumbed your nose at the ‘Balance of Power’, so carefully conceived and implemented by our Founders, by appointing unaccountable “Czars” to function as your direct emissaries over fundamental areas of public policy, thereby blatantly by-passing the checks and balances of Congressional oversight. You pursue special interest agendas motivated by the faddish science of “Global Warming” or “Climate Change”, or whatever it will be called next. In the ‘cap and tax’ plan, you justify the biggest tax assault on the American people ever conceived. Yet, you boldly assure the American people that it will cost them nothing, since only the “polluters” will pay. But, in the process you will destroy thousands of truly sustainable jobs (in exchange for temporary “green” jobs – like insulating buildings and re-caulking windows). Bringing America to its knees in financial dependence, in energy dependence, and a gutted manufacturing sector is sadly what’s happening. It appears that in reality, the “Change” you promised is just your personal change—clearly not what the American people so desperately hoped for.So Mr. President, these things that I and the American people have come to observe and conclude are bringing this nation to a point closer each day that resembles the circumstances that forced the hearts, the minds and then the hands of our Founders. As we quickly approach the remembering of Independence Day – July 4, 2009, please remember that as you make your choices, so must we. May you and all the American people reread the Declaration of Independence – very carefully. Identify the principles they clearly stated and then apply them to today. Feel the intensity of the letter sent to the King. Understand the careful steps they undertook to make the moral case for freedom and independence in the context of the history of mankind. Note in particular the foundational precepts woven into paragraph two, written as much for the benefit of Americans yet unknown and unborn as it was a message to King George. As the President who holds the highest elected position in both honor and responsibility in this Republic, place yourself in the position of the King, look in the mirror, and then look across this great land at the faces of our great people and listen to their pleas. The King didn’t know for sure all that Declaration Letter would mean for him, but I am certain that he knew he had ignited the will and passion of a freedom-loving people for which only time would prove the outcome.So it is today. Now, we have the Constitution against which to compare the words and actions of those in public office. The people, Mr. President, are awaking. They are realigning their priorities, purifying their motivations, and galvanizing their wills. Their freedom and their families are what they love and, thankfully, what they will defend. As to what comes next, I cannot say. I do know that another Declaration Letter is not necessary since this country already belongs to us. Our freedom and this republic are already ours. It is the return of freedom they demand. It is nothing less than the adherence to the Constitution and to the oath we have both taken that they demand. We, continuing to carefully note and compare as our Founders did, are also coming to serious and reasoned conclusions. Our path is charted – unknown perhaps as to its ultimate outcome – but certain as to its demand upon us.

These days its hard tell who is who. When Obama ran for president I saw him like millions of other Americans did. Finally! An intelligent president; a symbol of hope and change. Like so many others...I was convinced that the world just needed someone like Obama to lift up America's image. But the problem wasn't just Bush and his incompetancy, my friends. The problem lies with several evil rich entities who are now using our very government and even the position of the President to carry out secretive and destructive agendas... These organizations are the biggest threat to Democracy. My forefathers warned time and again that we must not let private organizations meddle in our currency or the repercussions would be corruption and catastrophe. Yet here, despite the warnings of Thomas Jefferson, we see that once again the wool has been pulled over the eyes of the people, who are distracted by the signs and struggles of this time. Through Obama, these private banking organizations are trying to create a "World Bank" in which they would control all monetary and financial systems, creating one world currency and eventually, government. The sinister thing is that with absolute power comes great potential for absolute corruption. Already the new commander-in-chief has renewed the Patriot Act... and laid several other plans for action which continue the dictatorial reign of the last 8 yrs. These evil men "behind the curtain" are using the charismatic president Obama to convince the people to accept these stifling losses of liberties. They are not out for your own good. This is against the plans our forefathers laid for this once-great nation. Obama has now been linked to several of these private banking groups who wish to control the world. Wake up people! Get informed. Do what research you can to find out for yourself and then decide whether or not you agree. In this country we are guaranteed freedom of thought and speech. Excercise your rights, as they were given to you by ancestors of yours who died for them. Never let anyone take them from you. The more aware we are as a nation, the more people will disagree with the current agenda of these bankers I am sure. If you have not already seen Alex Jones' film "The Obama Deception", I urge you to go on youtube.com and look it up, or follow the link posted in my previous blog entry.... It is worth the watch and will go into much more detail than this post does regarding the current situation and the terrible agenda being laid forth by the richest of bankers and presented to a hopeful and decieved world public by a young, bright and charismatic individual named Barack Obama. I genuinely like Obama and his family is lovely... But we as the human element of a nation must not ignore the changes that are taking place which severely restrict and destroy the civil liberties this country was founded upon! Tell everyone you know! Power to the People!!!! Stay up yall....

Following the Boston Tea Party, Dec. 16, 1773, in which American Colonists dumped 342 containers of tea into the Boston harbor, the British Parliament enacted a series of Acts in response to the rebellion in Massachusetts.
In May of 1774, General Thomas Gage, commander of all British military forces in the colonies, arrived in Boston, followed by the arrival of four regiments of British troops.
The First Continental Congress met in the fall of 1774 in Philadelphia with 56 American delegates, representing every colony, except Georgia. On September 17, the Congress declared its opposition to the repressive Acts of Parliament, saying they are "not to be obeyed," and also promoted the formation of local militia units.
Thus economic and military tensions between the colonists and the British escalated. In February of 1775, a provincial congress was held in Massachusetts during which John Hancock and Joseph Warren began defensive preparations for a state of war. The English Parliament then declared Massachusetts to be in a state of rebellion.
On March 23, in Virginia, the largest colony in America, a meeting of the colony's delegates was held in St. John's church in Richmond. Resolutions were presented by Patrick Henry putting the colony of Virginia "into a posture of defense...embodying, arming, and disciplining such a number of men as may be sufficient for that purpose." Before the vote was taken on his resolutions, Henry delivered the speech below, imploring the delegates to vote in favor.
He spoke without any notes in a voice that became louder and louder, climaxing with the now famous ending. Following his speech, the vote was taken in which his resolutions passed by a narrow margin, and thus Virginia joined in the American Revolution.

"No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen, if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve.
This is no time for ceremony. The question before the House is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty towards the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.
Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?
For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth -- to know the worst and to provide for it. I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past. And judging by the past, I wish to know what there has been in the conduct of the British ministry for the last ten years, to justify those hopes with which gentlemen have been pleased to solace themselves and the House?
Is it that insidious smile with which our petition has been lately received? Trust it not, sir; it will prove a snare to your feet. Suffer not yourselves to be betrayed with a kiss. Ask yourselves how this gracious reception of our petition comports with these warlike preparations which cover our waters and darken our land. Are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation? Have we shown ourselves so unwilling to be reconciled that force must be called in to win back our love? Let us not deceive ourselves, sir. These are the implements of war and subjugation -- the last arguments to which kings resort. I ask gentlemen, sir, what means this martial array, if its purpose be not to force us to submission? Can gentlemen assign any other possible motives for it? Has Great Britain any enemy, in this quarter of the world, to call for all this accumulation of navies and armies?
No, sir, she has none. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other. They are sent over to bind and rivet upon us those chains which the British ministry have been so long forging. And what have we to oppose to them? Shall we try argument? Sir, we have been trying that for the last ten years. Have we anything new to offer on the subject? Nothing.
We have held the subject up in every light of which it is capable; but it has been all in vain. Shall we resort to entreaty and humble supplication? What terms shall we find which have not been already exhausted? Let us not, I beseech you, sir, deceive ourselves longer.
Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament.
Our petitions have been slighted; our remonstrances have produced additional violence and insult; our supplications have been disregarded; and we have been spurned, with contempt, from the foot of the throne. In vain, after these things, may we indulge the fond hope of peace and reconciliation. There is no longer any room for hope.
If we wish to be free -- if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending -- if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us!
They tell us, sir, that we are weak -- unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance, by lying supinely on our backs, and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
Sir, we are not weak, if we make a proper use of the means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us.
The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable -- and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come!
It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, "Peace! Peace!" -- but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!
